Energy Saving Activities

Even though IPT is the power generator but IPT has announced
a policy and also committed to be energy saving company.
IPT has constantly initiated energy saving campaigns,
projects and activities. Together with IPT staff collaboration,
IPT has been able to decrease the energy consumption
in office dramatically.

Moreover, IPT has implemented energy saving projects
to improve generation process efficiency.

A REPORT ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
PROCESSED BY
INDEPENDENT POWER (THAILAND) CO., LTD.

This environmental impact report prepared by the Seacot Company Limited. It is summarized as follows:

Air Quality Monitoring
As a result of thorough air quality monitor in the atmosphere around the plant from the year 2000 till present, this air quality study concentrates on the concentration of the following gases; Sulfur dioxide, Nitrogen dioxide, dust particle, and dust particle of less than 10 micron.

The information has been gathered from the neighboring communities as follows; Ban Au-udom, Sriracha Agricultural Research Center, Ban Sameddaeng, Ban Pakthang Au-udom, Ban Sak Yaijeen, Ban Thung, Ban Manorom, Ban Laemchabang Kao, Ban Nongpedhai, Ban Na Kao and Ban Thungtaekrua.

Sulfur dioxide Gas
The result of the continuous monitoring on the Sulfur dioxide gas in the atmosphere from the 11 targeted areas from year 2000 till present has yielded the gas content ranging from 0.001-0.048 mg/m3 which is well below the legal standard of 0.300 gm/m3.

Nitrogen dioxide Gas
From the year 2000 till present, the study has yielded a result of the concentration of the Nitrogen gas in the atmosphere monitored in the 12 targeted areas surrounding the Independent Power (Thailand) Co., Ltd. ranging from 0.011 - 0.068 mg/m3 which is well below the legal standard of 0.320 mg/m3.

Dust particle

  • Dust particle in general
From the year 2000 till present, the study has yielded a result of the dust particle in the atmosphere monitored in the 9 targeted areas surrounding the Independent Power (Thailand) Co., Ltd. ranging from 0.022 -0.256 mg/m3 which is well below the industrial standard of 0.330 mg/m3.
  • Dust particle of less than 10 microns
From the year 2000 till present, the study has yielded a result of the dust particle of less than 10 micros in the atmosphere monitored in the 7 targeted areas surrounding the Independent Power (Thailand) Co., Ltd. ranging from 0.013 -0.094 mg/m3. It is well below the industrial standard of 0.120 mg/m3.

Wasted water quality
The process of generating the electricity has caused the wasted water approximately 116 m3/hr. This wasted water is produced by the following procedures;

  • The Cooling Tower -- approximately 104 m3/hr.
  • The Demineralization -- approximately 3 m3/hr. The wasted water from this process is treated before releasing.
  • The Evaporative Cooler -- approximately 2 m3/hr.
  • The cleaning of both floor and equipment -- approximately 7 m3/hr. The wasted water which contains oil deposit will be treated before releasing.
As a result of continuous monitoring the wasted water quality, the changed values of contamination in the water quality are shown. The change of the water quality definitely affects the environment. The process includes recording of values provided by various parameters such as; temperature, acid - alkaline quality, water-soluble solid substance, sediment, BOD, oil and fat, phosphate, nitrate, and electric-conductivity. The quality of the wasted water is still in the industrial standard.

The quality of the seawater.
In order to maintain the quality of the seawater in the Au-Udom , two monitoring sites are set in front of the Thai Oil Refinery; the first one is at the jetty of the refinery and the second site is at the wasted water outlet of the company. The monitoring procedure includes; temperature, acid - alkaline quality, and oxygen and ammonia content. The quality of the seawater meets various industrial standards; standard type 7 (industrial area), seawater quality type 2 (seawater quality for coral reservation, and standard type 4 (seawater quality for aquatic farming). The quality of the wasted water produced by the company does not effect the quality of the seawater.

Noise
The noise pollution is monitored in four surrounding areas; Ban Thungtaekrua area, around the fence of the parazylene factory, around the fence of the small electric generator, and around the fence of the Independence Power (Thailand) Co., Ltd. This monitoring process includes; the noise level of the average 24-hour (Leq 24), and the noise level of the day-night (Ldn). This monitoring is performed during the year 2000 till present. The noise level of the average 24-hour (Leq 24) ranges from 53.9 - 60.6 decibel (A), and the noise level of the day-night (Ldn) ranges from 59.3 - 68.1 decibel (A). These noise levels are well under the industrial standard 70 decibel.

Hence, we would say, the activity of the project does not have any negative impact to the communities surrounding the factory.
