Thaioil: From petroleum onto energy and petrochemicals
Throughout the three decades of operation, Thai Oil Company
Limited has dedicated itself to honouring its role of Thailand's
largest oil refiner (220,000 barrels per day) by supplying
petroleum products to meet some 30 percent of the domestic
demand and, thus, reducing dependency on foreign supplies.
This has been achieved through the continuous introduction
of advanced refining technologies and improvements to plant
equipment aimed to induce energy utilization in a manner which
is efficient and environment-friendly.

It has always been Thaioil's firm intention to contribute to the security of
the domestic energy sector. Therefore, in a move designed
to help strengthen the country's basic industries. Thaioil
decided to realize its full potential and commit to a programme
to broaden its business base from petroleum refining to the
related petrochemical and power industries. And, as with its
core operation, the most effective, modern, safe and environment-friendly
technologies have also been opted for these new ventures.
Today, Thaioil is poised to advance its own, and thereby
Thailand's industrial potential and become a proud competitor
on the international stage as Asia-Pacific's major energy
and petrochemical manufacturer.
Independent Power (Thailand) Company Limited has been selected by the Electricity
Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to build and operate a combined cycle power plant under
EGAT's Independent Power Producer (IPP) programme, phase 1, Stage 1, for the eastern corridor.
This is the first time the private sector has been allowed to invest in power generation. The project will help
meet the increasing demand for electricity resulting from continued domestic development, as well as
provide supply security, while at the same time reducing the government's capital requirements.
Independent Power (Thailand) Company Limited is the first IPP to sign the
Power Purchase Agreement with EGAT under the IPP programe.
